Memphis Grizzlies General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace announced today the team has requested waivers on forward Alexander Johnson.

Last season, Johnson appeared in 59 games (19 starts) for the Grizzlies and averaged 4.4 points and 3.1 rebounds in 12.8 minutes per game. The 6-9, 240-pound forward was assigned to the Arkansas RimRockers of the NBA Development League on March 1 and averaged 13.2 points and 8.6 rebounds in five games (four starts), before being recalled by the Grizzlies on March 15.

Originally selected by Indiana in the second round of the 2006 NBA Draft (45th overall), Johnson's draft rights were traded to Portland along with two future second round picks in exchange for the draft rights to James White. His draft rights were then traded by Portland to Memphis in exchange for a second round pick in the 2008 NBA Draft
