Prosecutors believe that ex-NBA referee Tim Donaghy deserves a break for fessing up to gambling while working for the league, according to The Associated Press.

In a letter dated May 8, prosecutors asked a judge to consider going easy on Donaghy because he provided "substantial assistance" in an investigation that resulted in the indictment of a professional gambler and a middleman, both former high school classmates of the referee.
