Celtics general manager Danny Ainge said on Tuesday that the team will exercise the 2009-10 option on Rajon Rondo's contract before the start of the season.
"He's made great progress," said Ainge. "He's a strong point guard on a championship team. He's come a long way. He has sort of a love for the game of basketball."
Rondo's agent, Bill Duffy, said the guard is happy about the decision and is hoping to ink a long-term deal next summer.
"It makes me feel good, they still want me," said Rondo. "It feels good to know that someone still wants you."
RealGM Note: Rondo was ranked 76th in season FIC during the 07-08 season and 'deserved' to make $8.33 million, giving him a Reina Value of +573%.
