Magic guard J.J. Redick and rookie Courtney Lee are having problems cracking into the team's rotation in the early part of the season.
"Everything is about winning games," Van Gundy said. "If you can somehow get David Stern to issue an edict that we're in the playoffs and each game doesn't matter to us, then I'll look at the minutes much more closely."
Van Gundy has restricted himself to an eight-man rotation, meaning that Redick and Lee are the odd men out.
"I go into a game knowing who my eight are going to be," he said. "Beyond that, it's foul trouble, it's situations, it's whatever happens."
