Bulls rookie point guard Derrick Rose had one of the best playoff debuts in NBA history on Saturday afternoon as the Bulls defeated the Celtics 105-103 in overtime.
Rose scored 36 points and dished 11 assists, as Chicago withstood a strong Boston run in the fourth quarter to take home court advantage away from the defending-champion Celtics.
Rose tied Kareem-Abdul Jabbar's NBA record for the most points ever scored by a player in their first playoff game.
Paul Pierce, fouled by Joakim Noah, hit one of two free throws to force overtime with 2.6 seconds left in regulation, but Tyrus Thomas made a jumper with a little under a minute remaining to give the Bulls a 105-103 victory at TD Banknorth Garden.
Rose, who was 12-for-18 from the field, and 12-for-12 from the foul line, fouled out with 10.3 seconds left in overtime, using the team's final foul to give.
Ray Allen missed a potential game-tying shot from the right baseline at the end of the overtime period.
