Larry Riley arrived as the Warriors chief player personnel decision maker largely as an unknown to their fan base.  Rusty Simmons of the San Francisco Chronicle has written a lengthy profile of his career.

"Some people may think, 'Who is this guy? Where is he coming from? Does he know what he's doing?' " Riley said. "I don't have a problem with that. I just hope people will wait to make their judgments on how I conduct myself and the decisions I make."

"He has a high basketball IQ, has the abilities to teach, motivate and encourage, and he's a tremendous talent-evaluator," Avery Johnson said. "At this stage, Riley fits the GM role like a glove."

Del Harris brought Riley to Milwaukee as a scout and video coordinator in 1988, and Riley has turned that opportunity into a 21-year career. He has worked as a college scout, an advanced scout, an assistant coach and a director of player personnel.
