The Oakland A's lost at least some of their competitive advantage in the years following the release of "Moneyball", written by Michael Lewis.

Lewis wrote an influential piece on Shane Battier and the way Daryl Morey and his staff in Houston use statistics to value players differently than other teams.

Lewis doesn't believe the Rockets have anything to fear about other clubs learning their secrets.

"The Rockets have created a lot more intellectual property than the A?s ever created," said Lewis.

Morey didn't share much of the statistical metrics with Lewis for the piece.

"He gave me enough to do what I wanted to do ? which was ask the questions. It would have been nice to know all the secrets, but I got enough. It wasn't going to be a rigorous statistical piece. They genuinely don't want people to know what they?re looking at."
