The Magic signed free-agent power forward Brandon Bass on Friday, a move that could allow Rashard Lewis to further excel.

It's conceivable that Orlando could play Bass at power forward while shifting Lewis to small forward at times.

Small forward is the latter's natural position.

"He gives us size," Magic general manager Otis Smith said of Bass. "He gives us a physical presence, somebody who could defend the bigger forwards at times, and it allows Rashard to take a step on the other side and play some '3.'

"Until we fill out our roster, we still have some more work to do. But I think we have the potential to be a better team than we were, particularly on the front line. As you get into postseason, your front line needs to be strong."
