The 76ers were very fortunate when guard Jrue Holiday fell to them at the 17th pick in June's NBA Draft.
The belief was that Philadelphia had acquired their point guard of the future, but after losing Andre Miller to Portland in free agency, Holiday's role could be significant this season.
Louis Williams, who hasn't played point guard since high school, is expected to play the position this season as well. The team also signed Royal Ivey to add depth.
Holiday, 19, will have training camp to prove to the team that he is capable of being the point guard of a playoff team.
It also appears as though the team will give Holiday a considerable leash heading into the 2009-10 campaign.
"Jrue will show us what type of time he can handle starting with training camp and during the season," 76ers general manager Ed Stefanski told RealGM's Andrew Perna recently.
"He will get a chance to compete for minutes. It will be Coach [Eddie] Jordan's call."
