The NBA has donated more than $145 million to charity through its NBA Cares program, exceeding the goal commissioner David Stern set five years ago.

The league kicked off a week of service on Monday to celebrate the program's five-year anniversary.

Stern announced the initiative on Oct. 18, 2005, saying it would raise and donate $100 million in five years.
