The Nuggets hope to complete a trade with the Nets for Carmelo Anthony and then use an unprotected lottery pick to entice Portland into parting with Nicolas Batum.
But it is an open question whether Anthony is still resistant to joining the Nets. Chris Sheridan continues to cite a source in reporting that Anthony has told the Nuggets that he will only extend his contract, with a trade, if Denver deals him to the Knicks.
The Nets are apparently being told that Anthony will extend his contract with them. But Sheridan's source indicates that Anthony has "steadfastly" affirmed his New York-only position in recent discussions with the Nuggets front office.

The Knicks were bothered to hear that Anthony thinks that the team is not interested in trading for him.
"The Knicks remain very much interested in acquiring Anthony," Sheridan writes, "but right now all they can do is wait for the Nuggets to re-engage them in further trade talks."
