The Boston Celtics are in an almost unprecedented position where they will have one of the top picks in the draft while also being one of the top contenders in the Eastern Conference.

The Celtics would like to upgrade their roster with a true superstar but it's difficult for them to part with not only a high draft pick but also multiple talented players on their roster.

"The sense I've also gotten is that there are factions in it that are like, 'Listen, we're giving you what should be the No. 1 pick and you are still asking us for 2, 3, 4 rotation players in return. What's the basis behind that? What's the direction are you still trying to go?

"They look at the first overall pick as a valued asset. 'Listen, you're not getting anything better than this on the open market, especially in this draft.'"

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Boston also must consider how Isaiah Thomas will react to a future franchise point guard in the draft in someone like Markelle Fultz or Lonzo Ball.

Charania also reports that the sense he's getting is the Celtics are comfortable seeing what trades are out there after the lottery determines it's actual number.
