The Minnesota Timberwolves have fired head coach and team president Tom Thibodeau. Ryan Saunders has been promoted to interim coach.

Thibodeau had a 97-107 record as coach of the Timberwolves, the second most wins in franchise history.

Fred Hoiberg is rumored to be a strong candidate to replace Thibodeau as head coach or Scott Layden as general manager. Layden remains the Timberwolves GM for now.

“These decisions are never easy to make, but we felt them necessary to move our organization forward,” Taylor said in a statement issued by the team.
