Shortly before news of Kevin Durant's trade request surfaced, the Brooklyn Nets acquired Royce O'Neale in a trade with the Utah Jazz. The trade was considered odd from the Utah perspective in sending out a starter for a first round pick.

Executives around the league are now wondering if the Jazz could be preparing for a rebuild that could include trading out Donovan Mitchell and or Rudy Gobert. Utah also lost Quin Snyder at head coach this offseason and replaced him with Will Hardy on a five-year deal.

"Why would the Jazz do that?" said Brian Windhorst on ESPN. "Why would the Jazz, who have two stars on their roster, take one of their starters and best defensive players in a salary dump move? Why would they do that?

"What's going in Utah? And that's what people around the league are watching right now. What's going on in Utah? I think the Brooklyn Nets and Phoenix Suns need to figure out what's going in Utah right now."

Windhorst also outlined that the pattern currently on display with the Jazz mirrors how Danny Ainge initiated a rebuild of the Boston Celtics in 2013 when they traded out Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Jason Terry and even Doc Rivers and then hired Brad Stevens.
