Stephen Curry is expected to return Friday against the Minnesota Timberwolves after missing five games with a left quad injury. Curry, who has averaged 27.9 points per game this season, was a full participant in Wednesday's practice at Chase Center by the Golden State Warriors.
Steve Kerr confirmed Curry's status following the team's Wednesday afternoon practice session. The Warriors have enjoyed four days off between games thanks to the NBA Cup schedule, providing additional recovery time for their franchise player.
"For Friday, he's day-to-day, but it's looking good," Kerr said.
Golden State posted a 3-2 record during Curry's absence, including a 2-1 mark on a recent Eastern Conference road trip. The team defeated Philadelphia, Cleveland and Chicago while adapting to life without their primary offensive weapon.
Pat Spencer emerged as an unexpected contributor during Curry's absence. The 29-year-old scored in double figures in four consecutive games while starting twice. Spencer will return to a bench role upon Curry's return but should maintain significant playing time.
"I think it's the shooting, the threat from long range," Kerr said of Spencer. "He'll be in the rotation for sure."
Curry sustained the quad injury on Nov. 26 against Houston and spent three road games working with medical staff in the Bay Area. This marks his second absence of the season after missing three games in October with a severe illness.
In his 17th NBA season, Curry continues performing at an elite level. He is shooting 39.1% from three-point range and averaging 4.0 assists per game. Curry has scored at least 30 points seven times in 16 games this season, including three 40-point performances.
