Oklahoma City Thunder guard Nikola Topic made his long-awaited return to the court in a G League game on Monday. In a victory for the Oklahoma City Blue over the Sioux Falls Skyforce, Topic played 16 minutes. The 20-year-old guard scored seven points on 3-of-5 shooting and dished out seven assists.

Topic missed his entire rookie season while recovering from a torn ACL he suffered while with KK Crvena Zvezda in Serbia. Then, while playing for the Thunder in the preseason, the 6-foot-6 guard was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Topic underwent aggressive treatment, with an idea on returning to the court this season.

The Thunder have dealt with several injuries throughout the course of this season. That could lead to Topic making his NBA debut following the All-Star break. Oklahoma City head coach Mark Daigneault complimented Topic's approach to getting back on the floor.

"Great accomplishment," Daigneault said of Topic playing in the G League. "Just can’t say enough about him as a guy, his mental toughness, maturity, resilience. … He hasn’t played a lot of basketball over the last two years, and he comes off a one-year rehab and immediately has a surprising diagnosis and goes through chemotherapy, three rounds of it. So for him to work himself back onto the court is just an unbelievable accomplishment, and we’re incredibly happy for him."
