The WNBA expansion draft will take place on April 3, the league announced on Wednesday.

There will be a coin flip between the Toronto Tempo and the Portland Fire on Friday, with the winner deciding between the first pick in the expansion draft or the sixth pick in the WNBA draft.

Whichever team doesn't pick sixth will get the seventh pick in the draft.

The expansion draft will feature two rounds, with up to six picks for each team in each round.

Other teams will submit a list of five protected players by Sunday. Only one player can be chosen per each team.

Teams can protect players they had the rights to on the final day of the 2025 regular season.

Any player with five or more years of experience must be put on a roster list as an unrestricted free agent or included in the unprotected list.

Toronto and Portland will only be allowed to select one player who's a potential unrestricted free agent.
