The Dallas Mavericks parted ways with head coach Jason Kidd because they wanted to start with a "clean slate" under new president Masai Ujiri, sources told Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
Ujiri and Kidd had several conversations over the past two weeks, according to Stein. Kidd had a strong relationship with both Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving. It is not yet known how the decision to part ways with Kidd will be received by either party.
Co-general manager Matt Riccardi is also leaving the Mavs.
There are no publicly identified candidates to take over the Mavs job, although head coach candidates Sean Sweeney has a previous history with the team.
Kidd finished with a 205-205 record in five seasons in Dallas.
Sources also add that Ujiri has an eight-figure salary with the Mavs.
