Nerlens Noel Makes Peace With Lack Of Playing Time

Dec 28, 2016 11:27 AM

Nerlens Noel has made peace with his lack of playing time as the Philadelphia 76ers continue to have a glut of centers.

"I think it will make me stronger mentally," said Noel. "These last four years have been nothing but adversity, from getting hurt in college to getting drafted to the tough situation with all the losing."

Noel was projected to be the first overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft before he tore the ACL in his left knee.

On Sept. 25, Noel said that "it doesn't make sense" for the Sixers to have three starting caliber centers in Noel, Joel Embiid and Jahlil Okafor.

"I think my will has grown a lot," Noel said.

"He's been great," Brett Brown said. "He's been working hard to get in shape and understand what we are running. I think we are going to see him on the court more and more."

Noel will be a restricted free agent in the offseason.

76ers Believe Joel Embiid Deserves All-Star Consideration

Dec 27, 2016 8:04 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers believe Joel Embiid deserves consideration for the 2017 All-Star Game.

"There is no doubt in my mind that he is a serious consideration for that," Brett Brown said. "I mean he hasn't done much wrong for him not to be legitimately considered for that game."

"He's putting up great numbers across the board," Nerlens Noel said. "He definitely should be in that conversation."

Blake Griffin in 2011 was the last rookie to be named to an All-Star Game.

Embiid has played more than expected so far this season.

"Coming in, I thought I was just going to come in and not play a lot, and just get my feet wet," he said.

Gerald Henderson Suffering From Intolerable Hip Pain

Dec 27, 2016 11:23 AM

Gerald Henderson left Monday's loss by the Philadelphia 76ers against the Sacramento Kings due to intolerable left hip pain.

Henderson was pulled out of the game early in the fourth quarter when he was visibly laboring.

“I’ve just been in a bit of pain, man,” Henderson said “It actually hasn’t been feeling pretty good. I just pulled myself out. I felt some other guys could do better at the time. I wasn’t moving great at all.

“I was getting blown by on defense, and I really wanted to win the game. I told him to take me out.”

Henderson said soreness and stiffness are a result from his having two surgeries in that hip. Henderson initially had surgery to repair a torn labrum in the hip in May 2011 while with the  Charlotte Bobcats. His second surgery  in July 2015 was debridement arthroscopy surgery.

Joel Embiid Calls Nerlens Noel 'My Best Friend On The 76ers'

Dec 21, 2016 10:21 AM

Nerlens Noel surprisingly played on Tuesday with Joel Embiid getting in foul trouble and he received a standing ovation from the Philadelphia 76ers' home crowd.

The 76ers had announced that Noel would be out of the rotation as they manage the four centers on their roster in Noel, Joel Embiid, Jahlil Okafor and Richaun Holmes.

"I loved it. He's my best friend on the team, and I was really happy for him," said Embiid. "He's been working his ass off too. The other day [he] was in the gym just working with Richaun [Holmes], playing one-on-one, two-on-two, so I felt really happy for him and I thought he should have played more.

"I also want to get on the court and see what we can look like together, because I like him and want to play with everybody. I feel like if we are trying something, we should try the other thing too. So hopefully in the future they do that.

"Because I have some type of relationship with him, I think I'm going to get him going, especially on the defensive end. Being aggressive, blitzing every pick and roll, just flying all over the place, I think we can really do that while we're on the court, and then offensively I'm sure we are going to figure it out. But I mean it's a team game, so just going to go out and compete every night with what we have."

Joel Embiid Taking Responsibility Of Changing 76ers' Culture

Dec 18, 2016 10:34 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers have struggled in their recent nationally televised appearances, something that doesn't sit well with Joel Embiid.

“My job has been trying to change the culture,” Embiid said. “It just makes me mad that we come out on ESPN and TNT and play so bad.”

The 76ers finished 10-72 last season.

“It still kind of makes me mad when I go on Twitter,” Embiid said. “We didn’t have the worst record in the league. But people still say we do just because of the past.”

76ers Take Nerlens Noel Out Of Rotation

Dec 18, 2016 10:25 PM

Nerlens Noel will be out of the Philadelphia 76ers' rotation for the foreseeable future.

The 76ers have a logjam at center in Noel, Joel Embiid and Jahlil Okafor.

Brett Brown mentioned that Noel “missed everything,” being away from the team in the preseason and the start of the regular season to rehabilitate inflammation in his left knee.

“Twenty minutes before the game [Friday], I learned he was going to play,” Brown said. “He hasn’t been a part of us. I think this conversation goes to a higher level, a more real level in a few weeks when he actually had some practices.

“Richaun has been here since Day 1. I feel that is something that’s on my mind as much as Nerlens.”

Noel missed the first 23 games with the knee injury. He spent some of that time rehabilitating in Alabama.

Noel played eight minutes on Friday and not at all on Sunday.

Brown said “trying to force-feed three bigs in a game is unfair.”

Nerlens Noel Meets With Brett Brown About Playing Time

Dec 17, 2016 9:37 PM

Nerlens Noel met with Brett Brown on Saturday about his lack of playing time.

Noel complained publicly to the media on Friday after playing just eight minutes.

"You might get emotional sometimes, and I'm human and I want to play basketball at the highest level," Noel said. "Now moving forward, it's taking it day by day and keep improving."

Friday's game marked the first time this season the Philadelphia 76ers had Noel, Joel Embiid and Jahlil Okafor available for the same game.

"I think I'm too good to be playing eight minutes," Noel said Friday night. "That's crazy. Need to figure this s--- out."

Brown understands Noel's frustration and hopes Saturday's meeting will help them get on the same page.

"He's highly competitive; he's in a very unusual situation," Brown told reporters Saturday. "The fact that it came out as soon as it did caught me off guard. We've discussed it, and I'll be surprised if everybody's not seeing how we all need to handle this better going forward."

Jerryd Bayless Likely Out For Season With Wrist Surgery

Dec 15, 2016 6:39 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers announced that guard Jerryd Bayless underwent successful surgery this morning to repair a torn ligament in his left wrist, which will be immobilized for the next 12 weeks.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Michelle Carlson of the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.

“While it’s unfortunate Jerryd will miss the remainder of the season, we feel confident that today’s procedure will resolve his wrist injury and related discomfort,” said Sixers President of Basketball Operations Bryan Colangelo. “Jerryd is to be credited with his committed and professional approach in making every effort to avoid this outcome.”

On October 21, the Sixers medical staff identified the source of the left wrist soreness to be a ligament injury and at that time both he and the team elected to pursue non-surgical treatment options to address the injury.

Bayless was signed by the Sixers on July 13, 2016 and appeared in three games this season, posting averages of 11 points, four rebounds and four assists in 24 minutes per game.

Dario Saric Accepts Need To Play Small Forward

Dec 16, 2016 11:37 AM

Dario Saric knows his best position in the NBA is power forward but he's accepting of the fact that he'll have to play small forward in certain situations to receive playing time.

Nerlens Noel is returning this week and he's expected to pair with Joel Embiid or Jahlil Okafor in the frontcourt, while they also need to find minutes for Ersan Ilyasova and Richaun Holmes.

"I feel OK," Saric said of the position switch after Wednesday's shootaround. "Of course, I will need some time, you know, to adjust to the new position, to guard different types of players, players who play more with the ball. [They are] players who are downhill, attack-minded."

The 76ers' frontcourt will become even more crowded when Ben Simmons debuts though he will play point guard on offense.

Rival Teams Have Been Discouraged By Their Intel On Nerlens Noel

Dec 14, 2016 5:36 PM

Nerlens Noel will be a restricted free agent in the offseason and could move on from the Philadelphia 76ers as they deal with their glut of centers.

The 76ers could be open to trading Noel before the trade deadline.

"The research teams have done on him is not good," said Wojnarowski. "They don't get good reports back on their intel of how he's carried himself there, of his habits. It's not a great return. There are teams willing to do a deal for him and bring him in but they don't want to give up much.

"At some point Philadelphia has to make a decision 'what's the best we can get for him?'

"I think at some point he probably moves."
