Sonics' Allen fined $10,000 for criticizing officials

Feb 25, 2004 9:04 PM

NEW YORK (AP) Seattle SuperSonics guard Ray Allen was fined $10,000 by the NBA on Wednesday for criticizing officials.

The All-Star was furious over a series of calls in the final minutes of Seattle's 94-92 loss at the Golden State Warriors on Friday. He fouled out on an offensive foul with 3:57 left.

``That refereeing tonight was disgusting,'' Allen said. ``There were so many bad calls down the stretch that decided the outcome of that game. For them to have an impact on the game like that is ridiculous.

``It is driving me crazy. I want to play in this league. I made the All-Star team, and I should have some type of respect around here.''

Allen, the Sonics' leading scorer, had only eight points on 2-of-10 shooting against the Warriors.

McMillan kicked out of Sonics game

Feb 25, 2004 6:02 AM

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Seattle coach Nate McMillan was ejected in the fourth quarter of the SuperSonics' game at Utah on Tuesday night for arguing with an official.

McMillan was upset the Sonics did not get a foul call after a physical struggle for a couple of offensive rebounds. Utah was on a 9-0 run and McMillan kept talking to referee Steve Javie, who heard enough and called McMillan for his second technical with 9:14 remaining in the game.

McMillan continued yelling at Javie for a few moments before heading toward the Sonics' locker room.

McMillan got his first technical with 3:45 left in the first quarter after Seattle's Jerome James was called for an offensive foul. The play was right in front of McMillan, who immediately began complaining, drawing a technical from Javie.

Sonics reject Bulls offer including Crawford, Fizer

Feb 18, 2004 4:14 AM

Brent Barry and Vladimir Radmanovic are the two most prominent Sonic names in the rumor mill, though Ronald Murray and Jerome James have also been mentioned.

It's thought Barry and Radmanovic were offered to Atlanta as part of a proposal for Shareef Abdur-Rahim before the Hawks opted to trade him to the Blazers. It's thought the Sonics turned down Chicago's offer of Jamal Crawford and Marcus Fizer as part of a deal for Barry and Radmanovic, instead seeking Tyson Chandler or Eddy Curry.

Barry will be a free agent at the end of the season, and negotiations have been ongoing to re-sign with the Sonics.

Those discussions could determine whether Barry is traded.

He's not saying anything about that. He'll just wait until it's over.

"There's always stuff floating around, but what can you do?" Barry said. "The fact that the day approaches, you know things are being talked about, but once that day is over, it's back to work."

Sonics activate Frahm from injured list

Feb 2, 2004 11:08 PM

SEATTLE (AP) The Seattle SuperSonics activated shooting guard Richie Frahm from the injured list on Monday, bringing their roster back to 12.

Frahm, averaging 4.0 points and 1.2 rebounds, spent 10 days on the injured list because of right knee tendinitis. The Sonics had only 11 players in Saturday's home loss to Sacramento.

Shooting guard Brent Barry went on the injured list last week after surgery to repair a broken finger on his right hand. He is expected to miss another four to five weeks.

SuperSonics, Barry headed toward contract impasse

Feb 2, 2004 10:26 AM

The Seattle SuperSonics want to get guard Brent Barry signed to a contract extension before he becomes a free agent this summer and have contacted his agent, Arn Tellum, in an attempt to do so.

Unfortunately, the sides are far apart.

Tellum and Sonics GM Rick Sund met and according to sources, Sund told him that the Sonics would offer a two-year deal worth $10 million..

However, according to sources wants a four-year deal for $23 million that would expire when he is 35.

Sources also say that several teams have contacted Tellum saying they would offer Barry the 4 year/$23 million contract that he wants this summer.

Several teams have called Sund about Barry but have been rebuffed.

Some possibilities mentioned are Atlanta, Boston, Golden State, New York, Orlando, and Portland.
