Raptors Refused To Include Pascal Siakam In Trade Offer To Spurs For Kawhi Leonard

May 31, 2019 9:45 PM

The emergence of Pascal Siakam this season as the probable Most Improved Player and his performance in Game 1 of The Finals triggered a discussion on whether the San Antonio Spurs could have acquired him from the Toronto Raptors for Kawhi Leonard.

The Spurs acquired DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl and a 2019 first round pick for Leonard and Danny Green.

The Raptors reportedly refused to include Siakam and OG Anunoby in trade talks for Leonard.

"My understanding is they would not trade him," said Tim Bontemps on The Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective podcast.

"No, he was not (available). I don't think so either," said Jackie MacMullan.

Daryl Morey Expects To Keep Core Rockets Despite Trade Speculation

May 31, 2019 11:05 AM

Daryl Morey predicted the Houston Rockets' starting five will return next season despite reports that he has been aggressive on the trade market and has made everyone conceivably available.

“My job is to make the best team possible, give us a chance to win a championship,” Morey said. “My job is to look at every aspect of the organization. How can we improve? Whether that be players, … yeah we’re going to look for better players."

The Rockets have also begun to overhaul their coaching staff.

“Whatever it takes to get over that final hump to get a championship, that’s what we’re going to do. On the coaching front, I … recommended we make some changes. If there’s a trade out there that helps us, great, we’ll do that as well.

“Our starting five this year I would put up there with anyone. If there's a trade out there that helps we'll do that. We're going to keep all of our key people."

Knicks Explore Trading Down From No. 3

May 31, 2019 9:43 AM

The New York Knicks will host RJ Barrett for a workout on June 10th as he looks like the likely selection at No. 3.

Barrett would be excited about joining the Knicks, according to sources.

The Knicks, however, are doing due diligence on other prospects in the top 10 as they could move back. The Knicks view the concept of trading down as a way of acquiring pieces that would fit better around a star they might sign in free agency such as Kevin Durant or Kyrie Irving.

The Knicks are considering trading the No. 3 pick to the Atlanta Hawks for Nos. 8 and 10. The Hawks would essentially be on the opposite side of a deal they did last year in which they traded down from No. 3 with the Dallas Mavericks to pick up an additional selection. A deal is unlikely to occur until the draft is underway to know which players are available.

The Knicks have been looking at Cam Reddish, Jarrett Culver, Coby White and Nassir Little.

Anthony Davis Unlikely To Drop Trade Request From Pelicans

May 29, 2019 5:34 PM

Anthony Davis is "highly unlikely" to stance his stance on requesting a trade from the New Orleans Pelicans.

Davis requested a trade from the Pelicans at the end of January.

Davis and his agent, Rich Paul, met with David Griffin on Wednesday in Los Angeles. The meeting was described as a "respectful, productive sit down."

Griffin has been seeking an opportunity to convince Davis to drop his trade request, particularly after the Pelicans won the lottery.

Rockets Aggressive In Trade Talks With All Players, Picks Available

May 29, 2019 2:05 PM

The Houston Rockets have exhibited an "aggressive desire to improve roster with all players and picks available in talks" with other teams.

The Rockets were eliminated in the Western Conference Semifinals in six games by the Golden State Warriors.

Adrian Wojnarowski posits that all players under contract with the probable exception of James Harden could be made available, which means Chris Paul could be discussed. Paul re-signed with the Rockets last offseason on a four-year, $160 million deal.

Shams Charania of The Athletic reported last week that Harden and Paul had a heated exchange following their Game 6 loss to the Warriors.

Marc Stein of the New York Times reports Clint Capela is among the players Houston has gauged the market for in recent days.

May 29, 2019 10:43 AM

Anthony Davis will meet with David Griffin on Wednesday.

Griffin was hired this offseason as Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations of the New Orleans Pelicans.

Steve Mills: Kristaps Porzingis Threatened Not To Re-Sign With Knicks Before Trade

May 23, 2019 10:05 AM

Steve Mills said that Kristaps Porizingis threatened to go back to Europe to finish his rehab if he weren't traded by the New York Knicks by the trade deadline.

Mills recounted the story at a Knicks fan forum on Wednesday.

“When he walked into our office, my office, and Scott [Perry, Knicks GM] was sitting there with me, and point blank said to us, ‘I don’t want to be here, I’m not going to re-sign with the Knicks, and I’ll give you seven days to try and trade me or I’m going back to Europe,'" said Mills.

Mills and Scott Perry added that they started receiving trade offers for Porzingis last September.

David Griffin Looking Forward To Selling Anthony Davis On Pelicans' 'Compelling Situation'

May 21, 2019 1:41 PM

David Griffin hasn't given up on the possibility of retaining Anthony Davis with the New Orleans Pelicans long-term.

The Pelicans presumably received a boost on that possibility by winning the lottery, but early reports indicated that Davis still wanted a trade from the Pelicans.

The Pelicans can offer Davis a supermax contract this offseason.

Griffin plans to meet with Davis in Los Angeles when agencies host predraft workouts.

“We’re very confident that we have a compelling situation for him here,” said Griffin.

Frank Ntilikina Switches Agents, Seeks Trade From Knicks

May 20, 2019 6:38 PM

Frank Ntilikina has dropped CAA as his agency and plans to sign with Bouna Ndiaye.

Ntilikina would like a trade from the New York Knicks this offseason. The Knicks rejected trade offers for Ntilikina at the trade deadline and decided to change agents following their acquisition of yet another point guard in Dennis Smith Jr.

Ntilikina has a $6.2 million contract option for the 20-21 season that will need to be picked up by Oct. 31.

The Phoenix Suns and Orlando Magic were among the teams that expressed interest in trading for Ntilikina.

LeBron James Has No Interest In Leaving Lakers

May 20, 2019 5:56 PM

The possibility of the Los Angeles Lakers trading LeBron James has been floated in the media, but the scenario appears extremely unlikely. James signed a four-year, $154 million contract with the Lakers during the 2018 offseason with the deal containing a player option for Year 4.

"Another discussion I had was this idea that LeBron could be traded," said Joe Vardon on the Tampering podcast. "I spoke with about 10 GMs and I would say about eight of them said flatly they did not expect LeBron to be traded. At least not this year. Two others were more curious about it, but are kind of just seeing how it wouldn't make sense for the Lakers to do that this year. You have him. You should take another run. You should see what happens when you get into free agency this year."

Vardon added that he believes James would have no interest in leaving Los Angeles as his family has become settled there with his son set to start high school.

"He is so happy to be living in Los Angeles," said Vardon. "His family is so happy about this. Bronny is going into high school. This is where they want to be. LeBron does not want to play anywhere else. I would be shocked if at any point for the remainder of his career, so long as LeBron James Jr. is in high school in Greater Los Angeles, that he would have any interest in playing anywhere else. He wants to make this work."
