Agents Deride Way 76ers Have Operated During Rebuild

Nov 30, 2015 2:39 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers are in the third season of Sam Hinkie's rebuilding project with no turnaround in sight.

The way they have treated players, agents and possibly other teams may be the most problematic part of the process long-term.

"Their inability to establish a rapport with agents and probably with other teams is definitely going to lead to their demise," an agent said of the Sixers' regime.

"When you're building a business culture, you're dealing with human beings," another prominent agent said. "Especially with athletes, you've got to have a rapport with these guys. It's a culture of communication and transparency, and none of that exists."

"There's nobody there, and nobody will go there," an agent said. "Nobody. Cap space won't matter. You know who'll go there? Guys that are trying to steal money."

Kobe Bryant Announces Retirement At End Of Current Season

Nov 29, 2015 7:51 PM

Kobe Bryant has announced he will retire at the end of the 15-16 season.

Bryant is in his 20th NBA season, all spent with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Bryant won five NBA championships with the Lakers and was regular season MVP in 2008. Bryant also was an 11-time All-NBA First Team selection.

Bryant informed Byron Scott on Saturday that it would be his last season.

Bryant wrote the following on The Player's Tribune:

Dear Basketball,

From the moment
I started rolling my dad’s tube socks
And shooting imaginary
Game-winning shots
In the Great Western Forum
I knew one thing was real:

I fell in love with you.

A love so deep I gave you my all —
From my mind & body
To my spirit & soul.

As a six-year-old boy
Deeply in love with you
I never saw the end of the tunnel.
I only saw myself
Running out of one.

And so I ran.
I ran up and down every court
After every loose ball for you.
You asked for my hustle
I gave you my heart
Because it came with so much more.

I played through the sweat and hurt
Not because challenge called me
But because YOU called me.
I did everything for YOU
Because that’s what you do
When someone makes you feel as
Alive as you’ve made me feel.

You gave a six-year-old boy his Laker dream
And I’ll always love you for it.
But I can’t love you obsessively for much longer.
This season is all I have left to give.
My heart can take the pounding
My mind can handle the grind
But my body knows it’s time to say goodbye.

And that’s OK.
I’m ready to let you go.
I want you to know now
So we both can savor every moment we have left together.
The good and the bad.
We have given each other
All that we have.

And we both know, no matter what I do next
I’ll always be that kid
With the rolled up socks
Garbage can in the corner
:05 seconds on the clock
Ball in my hands.
5 … 4 … 3 … 2 … 1

Love you always,
Kobe

Byron Scott Believes He Still Has Support Of Lakers' Front Office

Nov 27, 2015 11:53 AM

Byron Scott believes he's still receiving the support from the Los Angeles Lakers' front office.

The Lakers are 2-12 to start the season.

Scott is in the second-year of a four-year contract worth $17 million, with a team option for the final season.

“We still understand that this is a process,” Scott said. “We have a lot of young guys on this team that we feel will be very good players. But it’s not going to happen in a month. It’s going to take some time. It might take a year or two.”

Scott revealed he and Mitch Kupchak have addressed “what we can do to get these young guys better and make the procedure for them a lot easier.”

Kings Could Make Another Run At John Calipari

Nov 20, 2015 1:44 PM

Vivek Ranadive remains interested in hiring John Calipari as head coach for the Sacramento Kings.

Without a dramatic turnaround in on-floor results and locker room chemistry, George Karl is unlikely to remain head coach beyond current season.

"Ranadivé’s biggest dream is to have Kentucky coach John Calipari come out and coach this roster full of Kentucky players.

"The belief is that Ranadive will take another run after Calipari plans to make an offer that Calipari simply cannot refuse."

Report: Ranadive Has Interest In Nancy Lieberman As Interim If George Karl Fired

Nov 20, 2015 1:08 PM

The Sacramento Kings continue to have a situation of turmoil and instability with George Karl battling DeMarcus Cousins.

"The belief still is it’s a matter of when, not if, Karl will be removed as the head coach.

"If that should happen during this season, the short-term answers are, according to owner Vivek Ranadivé – or sources say – he would like to move Nancy Lieberman into the head-coaching position, making a big splash by having the first female head coach in NBA history. Vlade Divac, the GM is more inclined to fill with Corliss Williamson for the remainder of the season.

"But Ranadivé’s biggest dream is to have Kentucky coach John Calipari come out and coach this roster full of Kentucky players.

"The belief is that Ranadive will take another run after Calipari plans to make an offer that Calipari simply cannot refuse.
