Vince Carter Wants To Re-Sign With Mavericks

Mar 31, 2014 12:35 PM

Vince Carter wants to remain with the Dallas Mavericks next season.

“I think I’ve earned the right to stick around,” Carter said.

Carter has been a good value for Dallas on his three-year, $9.3 million contract.

“My fingers are crossed,” he said. “Next year might be even better. We can attract some more people, more talent. Now I know my role, and I know the system, it’s second nature to me now. I know the city very well. I’m stepping out, going to SMU games and getting out and about. I’m very comfortable here.

“I like the guys. I like the nucleus we have here. With my role and the way I play and the way I go about things, it really helps guys here. And they like that. Hopefully, that’s enough so that they can still have trust in me enough to play significant minutes and help the other guys out.”

Lakers Plan To Keep Steve Nash, Prefer To Pay Remainder Of Salary In One Season

Mar 31, 2014 8:11 AM

The Los Angeles Lakers plan to keep Steve Nash next season and prefer to eat his contract ($9.7 million) in one swoop rather than waiving him and stretching the money over three years.

By finishing Nash's contract, the Lakers expect to have more money to spend in 2015 and 2016, when they figure to be more active on the free agent market.

Nash has missed all but 12 games this season due to nerve injuries.

The Lakers also plan to keep Kendall Marshall, who has a non-guaranteed deal for next season.

P.J. Tucker Hopes To Re-Sign Long-Term With Suns

Mar 29, 2014 2:26 PM

P.J. Tucker wants to re-sign with the Phoenix Suns when he becomes a free agent in July, but the veteran forward knows a deal will be for a higher price than the veteran-minimum salary he has played for the past two seasons.

"Of course, why would I not?" Tucker said. "They brought me here. I think I exceeded their expectations and mine with what has transpired. Of course, I want to retire a Sun.

Tucker is averaging 9.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Forbes magazine named Tucker the most underpaid player in the league for his $884,000 salary.

"The love I have for this organization will always be," Tucker said. "They gave me a chance to prove myself and actually to prove that I'm a player in this league. It's almost emotional for me to think about everything I've been through and for them to give me an opportunity to do it. Not just to be on the team, but in two seasons, I've started a whole year and a half for the team on a minimum contract. That doesn't happen.

"When I sit back and think about it, which I never do, it's too much. So I'll always be indebted."

Source: Kevin Love Likes Idea Of Playing In LA, New York, Chicago

Mar 29, 2014 1:45 PM

Kevin Love can become a free agent in 2015 and appears one of the more likely players to move teams even though he has downplayed the possibility of leaving the Minnesota Timberwolves.

“You know, my parents live there and they had me there,” Love said of Los Angeles. “It’s not my fault. So, I don’t really care about that right now. I just go out there and play and don’t think about it.”

A sources familiar with Love's thinking says he's enamored with the idea of being “big time in a big city,” and that list of potential places he’d seek includes Los Angeles, New York and Chicago.

Both the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers are projected to have max cap space in 2015, while the Chicago Bulls could have enough assets to acquire Love via trade.

LeBron: 10-Year, $300M Contract Would Be Nice

Mar 29, 2014 12:42 PM

LeBron James was understandably impressed by the 10-year, $292 million contract signed by Miguel Cabrera with the Detroit Tigers.

James will earn $19 million this season with the Miami Heat, tied with Chris Bosh for the ninth-highest salary in the NBA.

"I said 'wow,' " James said. "I wish we (the NBA) didn't have a salary cap."

James would undoubtedly make at least three times his salary if there wasn't a salary cap, as playing below his actual value helps support the NBA's middle class of players.

"He's the best player in baseball, and the best players in each sport should be rewarded," James said. "It'd be nice to sign a 10-year deal worth $300 million."

James hasn't decided if he'll opt out of his contract yet, but he did say he would if he could sign that type of deal.

"I would do it this summer for sure," James said with a smile. "I'd opt out for that."

Ricky Rubio Could Seek Extension Offer Of $10M Per Year

Mar 28, 2014 10:46 PM

There is a sense that Ricky Rubio's agent could "demand" a contract extension of at least $10 million per year with the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to a report.

Rubio is represented by Dan Fegan.

Rubio has not shown to be deserving of an eight-figure salary, averaging 9.0 points and 8.6 assists while shooting 37.4 percent from the field this season.

Rubio is in his third NBA season.
