The South Bay Lakers have hired Metta World Peace as a player development coach.
World Peace comes to South Bay as a seasoned veteran of the Lakers organization, having spent six seasons as a player with the Los Angeles Lakers (2009-13, 2015-17). World Peace was a key player on the 2010 NBA Champion Lakers and ranks ninth all-time in three pointers made (420) in franchise history. The four-time All-Defensive team selection posted career averages of 13.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists in his 17-year career with the Bulls, Pacers, Kings, Rockets, Knicks and Lakers.
World Peace joins Head Coach Coby Karl and Assistant Coaches Brian Walsh, Isaiah Fox, Dane Johnson and Sean Nolen to finalize the South Bay Lakers’ coaching staff for the 2017-18 season.
Briante Weber has agreed upon a two-way contract with the Houston Rockets.
Weber will initially report to the Rockets' G-League affiliate but will have the opportunity to be called up.
The Rockets will be without Chris Paul for another 2-3 more weeks.
Weber's deal includes a team option for the 2018-19 season.
Weber has played briefly in the NBA with the Grizzlies, Heat, Warriors and Hornets.
The Milwaukee Bucks have signed Gary Payton II to a Two-Way contract.
Payton II, 24, originally signed with Milwaukee on April 2 and played in six games during the 2016-17 season where he averaged 3.3 points, 2.2 assists and 2.0 rebounds.
Payton appeared in four preseason games and averaged 7.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists.
The Golden State Warriors have agreed upon a two-way contract with Quinn Cook.
Cook was released last week by the Atlanta Hawks.
The Wisconsin Herd, the NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, acquired the returning player rights to Xavier Munford in a trade with the Greensboro Swarm. The Herd also received Greensboro’s second round pick in the 2018 NBA G League Draft in exchange for the team’s first round selections in 2017 and 2018.
“Xavier has competed at the highest levels of professional basketball in the NBA, NBA G League and internationally,” said Herd General Manager Dave Dean. “After working with Xavier throughout Bucks training camp, we see untapped potential and could not be more excited to add the former NBA G League All-Star to the Herd roster.”
Munford, 25, was a member of the 2017 USA AmeriCup Team that finished 5-0 and won the gold medal in Argentina. He averaged 10.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.
