Dragan Bender Prevented From Playing In U19 Due To Shoe Contract

Jun 28, 2015 11:35 AM

Dragan Bender, a potential top-5 pick in 2016, was ruled out of the Under-19 World Championship due to his refusal to wear Jordan Brand shoes.

Bender has signed an exclusive deal with Adidas, which prevents him from wearing other brands of shoes under the terms of the contract.

“They said to me, if Dragan doesn't use Jordan Brand shoes, he can't play,” Bender's agent wrote to Draft Express. “We are very sad. He wanted to defend the colors of his country, but it looks like commercial reasons are above sport reasons. I am so sad for all his teammates his coach. They did a great job during the past three weeks (preparing for the tournament).”

David Hein of FIBA.com confirmed that Bender wouldn't play. From FIBA's story:

"Vladimr Vanjak, Croatia's head of delegation at the tournament in Heraklion (Crete), Greece, confirmed to FIBA.com that Bender will be leaving Greece on Sunday.

He said: "The fact is that Bender denied [refused] to play in the Jordan Brand shoes but our Federation has a contract with Jordan and everybody has to play in Jordan Brand. He denied to do that but he didn't say anything before coming here. That's the problem. I talked with my Secretary General and other people who made the decision because we have a very serious contract with Jordan. If he cannot play in Jordan Brand, he cannot play. That's it."

Dario Saric Won't Join 76ers In 15-16

Jun 22, 2015 10:45 AM

Dario Saric won't play for the Philadelphia 76ers next season.

Saric was the 12th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft and is under a three-year contract with Anadolu Efes of Turkey.

The Sixers reportedly have attempted to negotiate a buyout over the past month, but Saric's buyout is too expensive to make the move practical, according to sources.

Saric has a player option on his contract that will technically allow him to come to the NBA for the 2016-17 season. However, there will be a big incentive for him to stay in Turkey for a third year and wait until the 2017-18 season to play in the NBA.

Saric won't be bound by the rookie scale if he waits three years to come to the NBA as Nikola Mirotic did last summer with the Chicago Bulls.

Kyrylo Fesenko Signing One-Year Deal With Lokomotiv In VTB League

Jun 8, 2015 4:29 PM

Veteran center Kyrylo Fesenko has agreed to a one-year contract with Lokomotiv Kuban of the VTB League, bypassing a workout with the Toronto Raptors, sources told RealGM.

Fesenko, a five-year reserve in the NBA, will sign a lucrative deal with the Russian team. He was among the big men invited to the Raptors’ free-agent camp later this month.

Fesenko played his NBA seasons with the Utah Jazz and Indiana Pacers between 2007 and 2012, averaging 2.3 points, two rebounds and 8.2 minutes per game in 135 contests.

The 7-foot-1 Fesenko went to training camp with the Minnesota Timberwolves last October and the Chicago Bulls in 2012.

Fesenko’s agency, Klutch Sports Group, also represents Levi Randolph, a guard prospect who has drawn interest in pre-draft workouts over the past few weeks. Randolph averaged 15.4 points as a senior at Alabama this past season.
