Stephen F. Holder of the Miami Herald reports: Kendall Gill once said he didn't believe the Heat could win an NBA title.

Furthermore, Gill said Heat coach Pat Riley's strenuous and lengthy practices shaved years off players' careers. And two years ago, after a spectacular defensive effort, Gill called Miami's offense predictable.

On Sunday, the 33-year-old free agent swingman had a considerable change of heart as he signed a one-year deal for 1 million with Miami.

The Heat will now turn its attention to finding a suitable backup at point guard.

A source has confirmed talks are ongoing between the Heat and Rod Strickland, the embattled Portland free agent. The Heat needs a veteran with Tim Hardaway likely on his way out.
