From the court: Yesterday was the first of coach John Lucas' "Morning Madness" practices, when the team took the floor at 6 a.m. It was the usual uneventful NBA practice with the exception of the amount of time the Cavs spent on zone defense and conditioning. The conditioning included an added twist where players spent up to 45 seconds at different workout stations that included jumping rope, leg lifts with a medicine ball, an agility drill with the use of a box, and lunges with a medicine ball.

Rookie level: Guard Jeff Trepagnier, the Cavs' second-round selection out of Southern Cal, didn't have any problems getting up early for practice. "I didn't want to be late," Trepagnier said. "I'm a rookie, so I wanted to be in the locker room ready and dressed before the other players."
