The fans were indifferent to most of the Trail Blazers, with the notable exception of Bonzi Wells.
Wells was showered with boos during a second-quarter timeout Friday night as the Portland Trail Blazers were on their way to an 83-81 victory over the Detroit Pistons.
The Blazers, who held off a late rally and got 22 points and nine rebounds from Rasheed Wallace, were playing their first home game since controversial remarks by Wells and an unflattering portrayal of the team were published in Sports Illustrated.
Wells was quoted as saying, "We're not going to worry about what the hell (the fans) think...they don't really matter to us. They can boo us every day, but they're still going to ask for our autographs if they see us on the street. That's why they're fans and we're NBA players."
The comments became a public relations nightmare for the Blazers and for Wells, who was in uniform for the first time in five games but did not play due to a sore left knee.
