The confirmation of Kevin O'Neill as the new head coach of the Toronto Raptors will have to wait a day or two.

It was anticipated that the Raptors would announce the appointment of the Detroit Pistons' assistant coach as the team's new boss yesterday. But by late afternoon, the club was indicating that the announcement won't be made until later in the week, perhaps by tomorrow at the earliest.

"I just think they don't have a deal done yet," one source with inside knowledge said. "They're close, but all the details have yet to be worked out."

Glen Grunwald, the Raptors' senior vice-president and general manager, is to travel to Washington today for a workout by draft prospect Mike Sweetney, the 6-foot-8 Georgetown forward.
