Unlike last season, the Pistons will not go into the free agent shopping season with a specific target.

"We don't have a specific target position," Dumars said. "It doesn't have to be like last year with Chauncey (Billups). It doesn't have to be a starter or a guy you just hand the ball to. But it does have to be somebody who is going to be a part of your rotation from day one."

The Pistons have the mid-level exception (estimated $4.8 million) to use, though Dumars said he won't spend it unless he could get the right player.

Juwan Howard's name has come up, but Dumars didn't seem overly excited.
