Vin Baker won't be doing the Summer League thing with the Celtics, but the big man still hopes to rehab his basketball career with an aggressive series of road trips this offseason.

Sources said yesterday that after treatment for alcohol-related problems, Baker is on line with a trainer (the same one who worked with Alonzo Mourning) and plans to work out and play in organized games with NBA players in Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles.

``He's going to go to the traditional places where the best games are going on and measure himself that way,'' said someone close to Baker. ``He decided he'd rather go against veteran NBA guys than play with rookies and free agents in a summer league situation.''

The Celtics plan to generally keep their distance and get reports on Baker's progress.
