When your GM makes an optimistic expectation that the team would amass 39 games and you reach 50 and the season isn't over then you know you've done well.  That is the case for Jerry West and his Memphis Grizzlies, a win over the Cavaliers who are fighting for playoff aspirations themselves sealing the team's fate.  So why are the Grizzlies better than even West expected?

"Nobody expected James Posey to play as well as he's playing," Griz center Lorenzen Wright said. "Nobody expected us to jell the way we've jelled. Not coming from 28, or however many (games) we won last year. Nobody expected this."

It's easy for the Grizzlies to forget the dismal past knowing that they've already earned extended playing time this season. It's fun to have amnesia when the future appears so bright.

"This is a special night for us," Griz coach Hubie Brown said after his team ended a two-game skid. "We asked for 41 wins, they got that early. We asked for the playoffs, they got that early. We asked for 50 wins, and they got that. When you're a coach you're proud of tonight because we were without three key guys."
