Shawne Williams woke up Friday morning and had about 20 missed calls on his cell phone. He saw he had overslept and missed his court hearing, prompting team president Larry Bird to say he would escort Williams to the courthouse if he had to for Monday's court appearance.

When he made it to court Monday, Williams pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor -- driving without ever having obtained a license -- and received a suspended 60-day jail sentence. He must pay a $400 fine and $160 in court costs. He was also ordered to perform 40 hours of community service.

"I have no excuse," Williams said. "I simply overslept. I wanted to be there, because I had my license and everything. I want to put this behind me and get things started on the basketball court."
