Monday, October 15, 2001 - MILWAUKEE - President George W. Bush's words on the war on terrorism blared from the speakers at the World Arena in Colorado Springs on Thursday while Denver Nuggets players warmed up before their preseason opener.

A moment of silence took place before "God Bless America" and "The Star-Spangled Banner" were played. And arena security kept an eye on a member of the media before allowing his admittance midway through the first quarter, after his press credential was found.

Although the Nuggets do not open the regular season until Oct. 30, the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks already have changed life in the NBA.

"In times like these, you get a clear understanding that (basketball) isn't nearly as important as we seem to place it in society," Nuggets coach Dan Issel said.
