Eddie House scored 24 points as the Miami Heat beat the San Antonio Spurs 90-88 on Tuesday night to avoid their worst preseason finish ever.

LaPhonso Ellis added 14 points, and Kendall Gill and Sam Mack each scored 13 for Miami, which completed exhibition play 2-5. The Heat will open the regular season Oct. 31 against Toronto.

Tim Duncan led the Spurs with 22 points and 12 rebounds in 29 minutes in the game played at Florida Atlantic University. San Antonio (4-2) has two preseason games left, against Philadelphia tonight and Houston on Friday night.

The Heat played without Rod Strickland, who officially signed with the team Tuesday. He will practice today.
