Grant Hill, who played in only four games last season because of two surgeries to his left ankle, missed his first regular-season game Saturday because of a mild sprain of his left foot.
Hill said he injured the foot in Friday night's 109-99 win against Charlotte, although he never left the floor because of it. Although X-rays taken before the game were negative, the Magic made the decision to hold out Hill after a pregame workout.
Hill stayed in uniform on the bench. The Magic will be facing Hill's former team, the Detroit Pistons, on Monday.
Getting a nice jump
Fast starts are becoming commonplace for the Magic. They scored a season-high 39 points in the first quarter Saturday. On Friday, they scored 34 points in the first, and Wednesday against Minnesota, they scored 36. The Magic entered Saturday's game first in the league in scoring (103.9 ppg), but they were 26th in defense (99.8 ppg allowed).
