The Jazz will have a new look tonight when they play the Clippers.
It has nothing to do with unfounded trade rumors involving Karl Malone.
It has a little to do with Donyell Marshall's return from injury.
It has a lot to do with Utah's inconsistent play at center, where coach Jerry Sloan says, "We just need guys to be a force in the middle. That's all we're looking for."
While the Jazz have muddled through their first 18 games, it has not happened.
Veteran center Greg Ostertag and free agent John Amaechi have struggled to the point where rookie Jarron Collins has emerged as the starter. At crunch time, Sloan now appears ready to go without any of the three, if matchups permit.
In Tuesday's 104-100 win over Charlotte, Sloan used a small lineup in the final 10 minutes, when the Jazz rallied from an 86-78 deficit.
Malone played center and Scott Padgett took over at power forward. Andrei Kirilenko was the small forward -- he played a season-high 37 minutes -- while John Stockton and John Crotty formed a pint-sized backcourt. Crotty made a clinching three-pointer with 3.2 seconds remaining.
It was easily Utah's most effective lineup of the night, and one of the most effective all season.
