RLANDO, Fla. - When Tony Battie passed a tattered copy of the box score to Paul Pierce in the locker room last night, the Celtics cocaptain needed only one word to sum up what had transpired at the TD Waterhouse Centre: Turnovers. An uncharacteristic 18 of them.
The turnovers were the most glaring example of the Celtics' failure to keep their composure against the Orlando Magic. Boston lost the ball, lost arguments with the officials, lost the battle on the boards, and lost the game, 98-87. While 13,273 fans cheered a win that pushed the Magic (18-18) to the .500 mark, the Celtics had to settle for a split of this two-game trip that started with a comeback win against the Knicks Saturday.
