As Rich DeVos, owner of the Orlando Magic, prepares to tell his team it has been reported repeatedly that the final destination of the Magic would be determined by the new ownership.  Or will it?  Deputy Commissioner Russ Granik has come to bat for Orlando, stating that Commissioner David Stern is strongly attached to keeping his NBA flavor in Central Florida, and that the league has no plans of allowing any new owner to move the team any time soon (RealGM Note: if only the Vancouver faithful were so lucky).

DeVos admitted that there is already six potential buyers who have been in contact, five individuals and one corporate buyer, with none based in Central Florida.  Granik said the NBA has also a group of potential owners that they would pass along to the Magic.

The arena issue deems to be an ongoing one for whomever does purchase the Magic, with TD Waterhouse not up to scratch.  Luxury boxes, garaged parking, restaurants and other revenue-enriching additions are now the norm in the NBA, with Granik stating that it is not possible for the Magic to continue playing out of TD Waterhouse in its current state long term.

DeVos has always claimed he wants the new owners to keep the Magic Orlando bound, but it will not be a requirement of the sale.  "As for what a new owner might do, I can't say. But we're going to try and impress upon them our feelings about Orlando" closed DeVos.
