Chuck Person has the same advice for his younger brother Wes - "Get some lift on your shot."

Wes Person had plenty of lift early, but it wasn't enough as it took Sacramento's Peja Stojakovic an extra period to defeat Person last night in the ATT Shootout at the First Union Center during the All-Star Weekend.

Person and Stojakvic were tied at 19 in the finals. Person tied the score and had a chance to win on his last ball but, his shot fell short. The tie forced a 24-second extra period where Stojakovic scored nine points and Person finished with five.

The regular shootout period is 60 seconds. "The strategy was different [during the 24-second shootout]," Person said. "Peja got out early. He got on a roll on the second rack and that made the difference."

Stojakovic received $25,000 for his effort and Person got $15,000 for second place. Person will donate his prize to the Wes Person Opportunity Center, a recreation program for youth in his hometown of Brantley, Ala.

"I thought I shot pretty good," Person said. "But Stojakovic shot the ball well too. I can't complain. It was just his night. He's one of the best 3-point shooters in the league."

Person advanced to the finals by leading all shooters in the first round with 21 points. Person was followed by Stokajovic with 20 and Steve Nash (Dallas) with 14.

Ray Allen of Milwaukee, the defending champion, was ousted in the first round. He finished with 14 points, tied with Quentin Richardson with 14.

The contest included two rounds with the top three scorers advancing to the finals. Five stations around the 3-point line, with four orange and one red, white and blue ball in each rack. The player had one minute to shoot. The orange balls were worth one point and the other three two points.
