Jazz guard DeShawn Stevenson was sentenced to two years of probation Monday for having sex with a minor.
Stevenson was not present for the hearing but his lawyer, Roger Litman, pleaded no contest on his behalf to charges that Stevenson, 20, had sex with a 14-year-old girl.
Litman pleaded guilty on his client's behalf to another charge of disturbing the peace for a fight that broke out at a basketball game the night he was drafted in the first round out of high school by the Jazz in 2000.
Stevenson was in Indianapolis on Monday with the Jazz, who will face the Indiana Pacers tonight. The second-year player feels grateful to have this behind him, even though disciplinary action from the NBA ? which could include a suspension ? likely is still forthcoming.
"Now, everything's about basketball," he said.
Kevin O'Connor, Jazz vice president for basketball operations, was also in Indianapolis but declined to speculate on a suspension.
"I would expect the league to review the situation and alert us," he said.
Asked when that might happen, O'Connor said, "They'll do it sooner rather than later ? as soon as they can get all the information."
