Steve Luhm of the Salt Lake Tribune reports that the Jazz and Celtics have discussed a trade that would send forward Bryon Russell to the Celtics. The Jazz would receive Boston's first-round pick in 2002 and a pair of players to match salaries. Those players reportedly are forward Walter McCarty, in the last year of his contract, and guard Randy Brown.

The Jazz's interest in the deal could hinge on their play during a nine-game Olympic road stretch. If Utah plays well and solidifies itself as a playoff contender, the Jazz might be inclined to back away.
