The Spurs had been tied with Midwest rival Dallas going into their respective last games. San Antonio held the tiebreaker in case they tied. They didn't -- Dallas lost to Phoenix -- but the Spurs held on in grand fashion against the Jazz to win their third division title in four years, writes Johnny Ludden of the San Antonio Express News.
Rookie point guard Tony Parker took an outlet pass with six seconds remaining and sprinted to a lay-up to get the win at 86-84 in Utah.
Because of the division title, the Spurs are seeded second while Dallas is seeded fourth. The Spurs would not have homecourt advatage against third seeded LA Lakers because the Lakers hold a tiebreaker over them. The Spurs will face Seattle in the first round of the playoffs. The Mavs will play Minnesota.
