The Cleveland Cavaliers should not be surprised by the recent fines imposed against them by the league, Branson Wright of The Plain Dealer is reporting. Nor should coach John Lucas be surprised that he was suspended for the first two games of the season.
Lucas worked out high school phenom LeBron James and several Cleveland State players recently in the club?s voluntary team workouts. Neither Lucas nor the Philadelphia 76ers were fined when Lucas allowed Kobe Bryant, then a high school star, to play while Lucas was the coach of the Sixers from 1994 to '96.
"We're not interpreting the rules the same way we did seven or eight years ago," Granik said. "Teams have all been advised over the past couple of years about the rules, and that's based on the influx of young players coming into the league.?
?We were going to be much stricter on how we looked at this."
One must then ask itself why Michael Jordan and the Washington Wizards were not fined last season. James was invited to and participated in Jordan?s workouts at Hoops the Gym in Chicago to get himself into NBA shape, but at the time he was technically still a Wizards executive.
