Time and time again this season, the Jazz have started slower than an SUV assembly line.

It wasn't as if they were unaware it's been a problem, considering what happened Thursday night in Washington ? and cost them so dearly ? in a loss to the Wizards.

Yet 24 or so hours later, it happened yet again: The desperately in need of a jump-start Jazz lost 86-75 to Detroit on Friday night at The Palace of Auburn Hills, dropping them to 3-7 overall and 1-3 on a five-game road trip that concludes Sunday at Toronto.

"We start almost every game we've had this year throwing the ball away ? 10, 12 times," Jazz coach Jerry Sloan said after the latest throwaway-fest.

Utah's early-game woes were manifested this time in the form of an inordinately high 14 first-half turnovers, six of them coming on offensive fouls. And it really caught up with them in the third quarter, when the 7-2 Pistons outscored the Jazz 28-15 behind 10-point, 4-of-5 shooting, including two three-pointers, from guard Chauncey Billups.
