Knicks General Manager Scott Layden has given Don Chaney some support as the Knicks Head coach according to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News.

Layden said that Chaney's job is safe no matter what happens in the final eight games and that his perception of the coach hasn't changed.

"That hasn't changed at all," Layden said after yesterday's practice at Greenburgh. "Coach Chaney is our coach. We've said that. That hasn't changed. Through the tough parts of the season and the good parts, he's kept this team together and kept them focused and got us through tough times."

"Our guys never give up and they've shown a lot of resolve this year," Layden said. "That's what we've come to expect with the group and the leadership."

The Knicks were hopefull to make the playoffs, but at this point they would likely have to go unbeaten the rest of the way to have a serious shot at contending for the eighth and final spot. Layden said even though the odds were stacked against his team, he still expected their best effort.

"Our guys have always responded and always bounced back. We would expect nothing different. It starts with coach. No one is happy with losing. You're obviously disappointed with the last few games, but I give Don credit because he's a competitor and back at it Monday morning."
