Apparently there's more motivation in just wanting to make the playoffs than there is in trying to improve one's playoff seed.

At least, that's one conclusion you might be able to draw after Friday night's Jazz game at the Delta Center, in which the undersized New York Knicks edged Utah in overtime, 94-92.
     
With a win, the Jazz would have secured a playoff berth. That will still happen, unless Utah closes the season on an 0-7 losing streak. But, more importantly, a win Friday would have gotten the Jazz a little bit closer to the two teams ? Minnesota and Portland ? they're chasing in hopes of securing a more favorable first-round playoff matchup and maybe even homecourt advantage.
