In his first season of coaching, Starks is the head coach of the expansion Westchester Wildfire in the United States Basketball League.

Starks is also a former minor-league player. After a season with Golden State in 1988-89, he played in the Continental Basketball Association and the World Basketball League before returning to the NBA.
