Top NBA coaching candidates Larry Brown and Paul Silas are off the market and a potential president of basketball operations for the Washington Wizards could soon become unavailable as well.
The Wizards were set to offer Brown in the neighborhood of $8 million annually to be their president of basketball operations and head coach, but Brown reportedly will be named coach of the Detroit Pistons today, league sources confirmed. The Philadelphia Inquirer and Associated Press reported that he has agreed to a five-year, $25 million deal.
Silas, who one league source said was interested in the Wizards' job but was not contacted, accepted the Cleveland Cavaliers' coaching job. Silas was fired by the New Orleans Hornets after leading them to their fourth straight playoff berth.
New Jersey Nets director of scouting Ed Stefanski, whom Nets General Manager Rod Thorn recommended to Wizards owner Abe Pollin as a prospect for Washington's vacant president of basketball operations position, was granted permission to interview for Portland's GM job.
