Although he is weighing an offer to be the next coach of the Rockets, Jeff Van Gundy told reporters today in Houston that he interviewed with the Washington Wizards "for a good length of time" Wednesday about their vacant coaching and president of basketball operations positions.
"Yesterday I spoke to the Wizards for a good length of time," said Van Gundy, a former New York Knicks coach who is now a broadcaster for TNT. "We'll just wait and see how everything works out."
While Van Gundy and the Rockets have not reached terms on a contract, negotiations are believed to be underway. Today, team officials took him and his family house hunting and on a tour of area schools and team facilities.
Van Gundy said he likes the situation in Houston, with the possibility to coach guards Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley and center Yao Ming.
